Comfort Food for Discomforting Times

Laundry Day Takeaway is a family-run business inspired by Cajun and Creole cooking. Jean, a Vermont resident for over 40 years, learned to cook in Mississippi in the '60s while working as a civil rights organizer. She’s the baker and resident fry cook behind Laundry Day, bringing what she learned in Mississippi to her Burlington community. Her daughter Abby, always a cook, fell in love with Cajun and Creole cuisine while living in New Orleans. She handles the cooking and writes the menus, drawing on Southern traditions and seasonal ingredients.

We serve simple, consistent meals like our signature Red Beans and Rice, a nod to the Louisiana tradition of a hands-off Monday meal. Alongside it, our hand pies have become the heart of our menu—a flaky, golden crust wrapped around rich, savory fillings. We make both savory hand pies, like crawfish étouffée, shrimp Creole, and dirty rice, and sweet pies, like our pecan-stuffed hand pie, along with pies featuring seasonal ingredients.

We’re now wholesaling our hand pies, offering them at farmers' markets, Monday pickups in Burlington, and through local wholesale partnerships. Join us for reliable comfort food and the spirit of Cajun and Creole cooking.
